Richard H. Empie

Richard H. Empie, 63, of Castleton passed peacefully surrounded by his family on November 2, 2017. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 41 years, Emily (Cochrane) Empie, and adoring children, Matthew Dugan, Scott (Kristie) Dugan, Jodi (Todd) Dow, and Jamie Empie. In addition he leaves behind his siblings, Kenneth (Roslyn) Empie, Guy (Lisa) Empie, Joan Empie, and Julie Empie, 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, sister’s-in-law Patricia Dugan, and Karen Cochrane, Brother-in-law, William Cochrane, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews whom he adored. Born in Niskayuna August 31, 1954, he was the son of the late Harlan R. and Joan C. (Farr) Empie. He was one of 9 children and was predeceased by his siblings Jay, Timothy, Diane, and Deborah. Richard retired this past March from Mohawk Paper in Cohoes and was looking forward to spending his days doing all the things he loved most. He was all set for his first full winter in Florida. He loved golfing, boating and fishing in Florida, and visits from his son to NY for hunting. He was very active and always working on a project. He could often be found working in his yard with his best buddy “Alex” never far behind. He was the life of every party and was always able to put a smile on your face. Richard had a devotion to his family unlike any other.
