SCHODACK LANDING VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY

What is now known as the Schodack Landing Fire Company was Organized on August 11, 1955.

The founding fathers of the organization recognized the need for a fire department in the most southern portion of Rensselaer County.

Community members organized with Albert Grooten as Temporary Chairman with Ernest Chiovini as temporary Treasurer and Louis Ebel temporary Secretary.

The Schodack Landing Volunteer Fire District was Chartered on October 21, 1955.

At a Special meeting held on October 24, 1955 the first Executive Officer’s of the Schodack Landing Fire Company were elected. Officers of the newly formed organization with Frank Buturlu as President, Thomas Secovnie Vice President, John Cavanaugh Treasurer, Louis Ebel Secretary, Albert Grooten Jr Director.

The Line Officers of the company consisted of Aurthur Downey Chief, Walt Drost Assistant Chief, Harold Barlett Assistant Chief, Alex Gregorewsky Lieutenant.

Fire police Chief Floyd Kleinhans Jr, and Assistant Chief Fred Shindler.

Since then, we’ve established a reputation for handling our duties in an efficient and effective manner. We strive to prepare for new challenges when it comes to our ability to fight fires and keep ourselves safe.  In 2022, we added a 2000 Gallon Engine / Tanker Truck to our arsenal, an asset to our District and the Town of Schodack.
