On January 2nd

Responded to a reported pump out in the Village of Castleton responded with 317 arrived found approx.. 3ft of water in basement. Castleton Fire on scene. Deployed our portable pump to assist in water removal. basement cleared and all units put back in service.

January 4th

Called for a reported Structure fire in the South Schodack Fire District. From South Schodack Command Chimney Smoke all units Returned to quarters.

January 4th

EMS Assist Knickerbocker Road for a cardiac arrest. Units arrived attempted to assist scene was turned over to Castleton Ambulance and Schodack Police. 

January 13th

responded to Structure Fire Columbia Turnpike Schodack Valley District. 316 Responded units found smoldering furniture out side of structure.

January 21st

Responded to reported Traffic Accident in the area of Staatts Island Road and 9j for a car in ditch. Units responding Castleton 6-1 Schodack Landing 31-6. Units arriving found one car off road no injuries all units returned to service.

January 30th

Responded to a reported Structure Fire on Vanhousen Road units responded 31-6 upon Arrival units found a large fire in woods. fire extinguished and all units returned to service.

January 13th

Responded to a delayed Ambulance response for a fall at a residence on Schodack Landing Road. U-31 responded Stabilized Patient and waited for Ambulance arrival. Assisted Ambulance crew in loading Patient and returned to service.

February 1st

Responded to reported Motor Vehicle Accident in the area of the thruway overpass upon Arrival units found 2 car MVA with injuries Castleton Ambulance arrived requested second Ambulance. Fire Assisted with traffic control until scene was cleared.

February 18th

Responded to reported Car into utility pole under the NYS thruway overpass. Units arriving found one car into pole with no occupant. Pole was broke air bag deployment. Station Assisted with Traffic Control until released by National Grid.

February 19th

Responded to Reported Structure Fire on Route 9 South Schodack Fire District all units cancelled by command Chimney Smoke.

February 20th

Responded to a cover assignment for Stuyvesant fire. Stuyvesant was working a structure fire on County Route 26A.

Runaway Search

With the teamwork From all Our Volunteer Agencies to help rescue a teenager in Castleton. This afternoon, a call was received about an autistic teenager who had left home in the late morning. The teen was eventually found five miles from home, about an hour before nightfall and an expected drop in temperatures. Responding were Castleton Volunteer Fire Department, Schodack Valley Fire Company, Schodack Landing Fire Company, Town of Schodack Police Department, East Greenbush Fire, East Greenbush Police, Castleton and Nassau Ambulance Organizations, New York State Police, Rensselaer County Search and Rescue, NYS  Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers, Rensselaer County Department of Public Safety and others. County Director of Public Safety Jay Wilson, Supervisor David Harris and Schodack Police Chief John Hourigan are shown just after the rescue. Thanks from County Executive Steve McLaughlin and all of us at Rensselaer County to everyone who came out and made a difference today.

On March 6th

Reported Chimney Fire

With the teamwork From all Our Volunteer Agencies to help with fighting this fire. On scene Schodack Landing, Castleton, South Schodack, Schodack Valley, East Greenbush, Clinton Heights, Stuyvesant, Niverville, Castleton Ambulance and Nassau Ambulance. We would like to also thank those agencies who move up to our working stations. The responding Chief’s biggest hurdle as always in the rural area is water supply.

  Upon arrival of 31-6 fire was visible from the rear of the building from the road. The house sits back over 1500 feet from road. 1 3/4 line extended into structure to living room area  encountered heavy fire load. Fire knocked down and putting out hot spots. We would also like to acknowledge our highway department for keeping us safe by salting the very slippery area.

March 12th

Dispatched for an Electrical Hazard on VanHousen Road. Notified Rensselaer County this was in South Schodack Fire District No response from our Station.

March 21st

Dispatched to a reported outside burn in the village of Castleton. 

On arrival Castleton Fire Car 2 reported small leaf fire homeowner extinguished fire.

April 15th

Responded to Traffic Accident at River Road & Schodack Landing Road. Units arrived to find a Farm Vehicle whom went over the curb. No injuries reported. units on scene 3.5 hours to unload truck fluids by https://www.schodackseptic.com/.

April 16th 

 Returned to Scene of Motor Vehicle Accident for Traffic Control Had to Shut down River Road for removal of vehicles. Roberts Towing was Hired for heavy Vehicle moving. Unites on Scene for approximately 3hours.

April 24th

Units responded to a reported outdoor fire. NYS has a Burn ban in March. https://www.dec.ny.gov/press/122502.html . A resident had a small camp fire that was not included in the Ban and someone called it in. Resident extinguished fire all units returned to service.

May 8th

Dispatched for a fire alarm activation on Van Hoesen Road first Chief on scene held all units in quarters burnt food in oven.

May 9th

Dispatched to a mothers day breakfast gone wrong. Reported fire in kitchen fire was extinguished by home owner prior to units arrival. 

May 26Th

Responded to tree and wires down area of Golden Lane. On arrival found large tree down with wires burning. Units responded to Schodack Landing Road and River Road Closed off Schodack Landing road and second unit responded to Muitzeskill Road and Schodack Landing Road and closed road to local traffic.   

May 29th

A request from US Coast Guard for a boat in distress in the Hudson River near the Castleton Boat Club. On arrival Boat was being towed by a passing by boat to the Boat Club.

June 4th

Reported Structure Fire Main Street Castleton. 317 Responded from State Island Park. Released from officer on scene.

June 7th

Responded to reported Structure Fire requested to establish a fill site at the Hudson River. Filled trucks from a Barn Fire.

June 29th

Request from Coast Guard for reported boat in distress in the area of Rail Lane. On arrival found a 28ft Scarab Jet Boat on the sand bar. deployed our flat bottom boat with 2 member’s to deliver water while chief officer made contact with boat via cell phone advised him of our limited resources that we are bringing him some water but he would have to wait for next tide. Crew given water and held out for next tide at 7pm. Received a call from boat crew at 620 they made it back to their vehicle and were on their way home.

July 2nd

Reported Structure fire in Schodack Valleys fire District resident reporting fire from an out let. first officer on scene held first in coming unit, and released all others.

July 5th

Schodack landing Fire and Castleton Fire Departments were dispatched to a structure fire. Schodack Landing Fire Car 4 requested a second Alarm because of the column of black smoke, on arrival found fully involved structure along with a bus and multiple vehicles and multiple explosion’s fire was put out with the help of  10 mutual aid companies.

July 11th

Responded to a Traffic Accident with Castleton Fire for traffic control.

July 12th

responded to a report of wires down on River Road found tree and wires down handled traffic control till hazard was removed.

July 18th

Responded to reported wires down on Schodack Landing Road and Funk Road. Hazard removed station returned to service.

July 30th

Dispatched for reported water rescue, Boat 31 was launched and victim was retrieved and returned to shore.

Aug 12th

Responded for reported Structure Fire in Schodack Valley Fire District. From Command we relocated to their fire house for stand-by.

Mutual Aid to Stuyvesant for a working Structure Fire.on county Rt 26A.

Aug. 13th

Received a call of a smoke detector activation on Schodack Landing Road. Unit’s arrived made contact and primary search of residence and found no smoke or CO meter readings.

Aug. 21st

Responded to an EMS assist for a fall victim to assist ambulance on scene.

Aug. 22

station placed on standby for a State of Emergency. Released by county Aug 23rd

Request from Columbia County to shut down River Road at Schodack Landing Road for trees and wires down at the county line.

Aug. 23rd

Responded to a reported Structure Fire first units on scene found small garage on fire fire extinguished all mutual Aid companies returned to service.

Sept. 08th

Responded to a reported outside fire in the area of Knickerbocker and River road on arrival found a 19″ boat on fire. crews knocked the fire down and turned the scene over to Schodack Police.

Sept 9th

reported structure fire at Riverside Nursing and rehabilitation arriving units found a over heated oxygen generator that created a short. using a thermal camera to confirm no fire extension scene turned over to facility staff

Oct. 15th

 Responded to a reported Traffic Accident on the West Bound lane on the Berkshire Spur (B1). On arrival 2 car auto minor injuries 2 transported to local hospital.

Oct. 17th

 Responded to reported Auto Accident on River Road an Stony Point on scene with Castleton Fire 2 car MVA . Traffic control till scene was cleared.

Oct 20th

Reported Possible Structure Fire passerby reported heavy black smoke. Arrived on scene found nothing showing code and building was requested Schodack Valley Fire canceled all mutual Aid companies.
